The mission of Jewish Family Services of Washtenaw County is to create solutions, promote dignity, and inspire humanity.
Serving people of all religions, races and ethnicities since 1993, Jewish Family Services is founded on the Jewish principles of caring for and “giving back” to our diverse community. JFS is dedicated to strengthening family life, fostering individual self-sufficiency and promoting improved social and economic conditions.
Our employees are well-trained professionals dedicated to excellence. Our staff, board and volunteers reach out to families, youth, older adults, disabled individuals, and refugees to offer the latest and most innovative strategies. The JFS environment reflects a deeply held belief that the dignity and needs of each individual are the primary motivation for all we do.

WISE Services
We partner with community agencies, hospitals, pharmacies and attorneys to ensure our older adult clients receive just the right services and support to maintain independence and dignity throughout their lives. Learn more about WISE Services.

Community Assistance

Employment & Economic Empowerment

Herb Amster Center
Created in honor of Herb Amster. The mission of the Amster Center is to develop revenue-generating businesses to reduce JFS’ dependence on grant and foundation funding. Learn more about the Herb Amster Center.

International Services
JFS offers a variety of international services including Employment and Economic Empowerment Services, Citizenship, Education including ESL Classes, Immigration, and Resettlement and Integration Services. Learn more about International Services.

Resettlement & Integration
The Resettlement & Integration Services Program at JFS assists refugees, other immigration statuses, and their families with critical social services to ease their transition into new communities. Learn more Resettlement and Integration.

Thrive Counseling
Skilled and compassionate licensed clinicians offer support, guidance and solutions for a wide range of issues that may cause you imbalance, stress or suffering—all in a personalized style. Learn more about Thrive Counseling.

Transportation Services
JFS provides a low-cost transportation option to ensure individuals and families can attend medical appointments, visit grocery stores, pharmacies, work, events and programs. Learn more about Transportation Services.

Nutrition Services
Nutrition Services includes the Specialty Food Pantry, WISE Meals At Home, Medically Tailored & Specialty Meals, Grab & Go Meals, Congregant Meals/WISE at the J and a soon to come commercial kitchen. Learn more about Nutrition Services.

The Lior Project
The Lior Project’s mission is to increase awareness, dialogue, and support in the Washtenaw County Jewish community about mental health, addiction, and suicide.
