Reliable and safe transportation is something everyone should be able to access.

To that end, JFS provides a low-cost transportation option to ensure individuals and families can attend medical appointments, visit grocery stores, pharmacies, work, or to make attending events and programs at places like Hill Auditorium, The Art MuseumMatthaei Botanical Gardens, etc. possible.

JFS carefully selects and hires caring, safe, and professional drivers to provide quality services including door-through-door escorted transportation to older adults needing personal assistance.

For more information on the program, to schedule a ride or to inquire about fees please contact the JFS transportation department at (734) 769-0209 ext. 305. Fees for specific services have been established according to JFS policy.

JFS will not turn clients away due to inability to pay. Requests for fee adjustments require submission of JFS Fee Adjustment Request and subsequent approval by the JFS Fee Review Committee. Clients should contact their JFS social worker to initiate this process.

Client Information

To ensure the safety of all JFS CareVan passengers, only JFS clients may participate in the CareVan program. To become a JFS client, call (734) 769-0209 and ask for the New Client Specialist to complete the initial screening via telephone. The transportation department will then follow up with you to discuss your needs and schedule transportation.

To ensure that our service runs smoothly, and to accommodate all of our clients’ needs, reservations for a JFS CareVan trip must be made at least one day in advance. Reservations can only be made by calling Jewish Family Services during regular business hours. We are unable to take same day reservations. Reservations can be made for recurring (standing) appointments and events up to one month in advance. Passengers must notify JFS 24 hours in advance of any changes in recurring appointments, otherwise the no-show/cancellation fee will apply. JFS drivers cannot take reservations. Every effort will be made to honor reasonable requests.

Fees
  • Basic round trip fee: $30
  • Trip between 20 and 30 miles: Basic round trip fee plus $10 surcharge
  • Trip over 30 miles: Basic round trip fee plus $20 surcharge
  • Multi-stop trip: Fee upon request
  • Group Trip: Fee upon request
  • No-show fee (failure to cancel 24 hours in advance): $15

No tipping is permitted through the transportation program. Contributions to JFS in honor of the drivers are welcome. JFS thanks its supporters of Transportation Services: JFS Transportation Services Fund, Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation, Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority and the Michigan Department of Transportation (5310 Federal Transportation Funding Program).
