Aging & Caregiver Services
JFS believes in promoting dignity.
We partner with community agencies, hospitals, pharmacies and attorneys to ensure our older adult clients receive just the right services and support to maintain independence and dignity throughout their lives.
Aging in Place Services
Navigating the complex array of services available to older adults who may have chronic, progressive illnesses and those in need can be confusing and frustrating. JFS Older Adult Services staff can help families and individuals find appropriate, available resources and alleviate barriers to access – including lack of knowledge, language skills, etc. JFS caseworkers can help enroll clients in the Community Living Program (CLP) through AAA 1-B.
Emergencies can quickly come up in your, or your loved ones, lives. JFS can help you in accessing specialized services and funds within Washtenaw county to help you cope with the unexpected.
JFS provides staff training for care facilities and home care agencies in the area of cultural sensitivity – with special focus on Jewish culture. This education enables caregivers to provide culturally conscientious care to their clients, resulting in higher levels of satisfaction and understanding. Visit the ElderLink page for more information.
New American Club
Partners in Care Concierge (PiCC)
Partners in Care Concierge (PiCC) is an innovative program that provides support for older adults and their caregivers through coordinated care and medical appointment accompaniment. Clients who desire assistance in accessing health care (attending appointments, remembering medical instructions, scheduling follow-up appointments, etc.) are paired with ‘Partners’ who assist with these activities.
JFS partners with many community agencies to help our clients access resources available to them in Washtenaw County. JFS assists clients in enrolling in Medicare/Medicaid, accessing financial resources and other benefits, exploring caregiver and senior living options, and other programs in the area.
Specialty Food Pantry
The pantry at JFS is the only specialty food pantry in Washtenaw County. The Specialty Food Pantry caters to dietary needs and restrictions and cultural dietary guidelines. In addition, the Specialty Food Pantry provides food delivery to homebound older adult clients. Visit the Specialty Food Pantry page for more information.
JFS Transportation provides a low-cost option to individuals and families, so that they can access grocery stores, pharmacies, attend medical appointments, and engage in the community through events and programs. Visit JFS’ transporation page to learn more about these services.
These volunteers provide companionship and socialization opportunities to isolated older adults. Volunteers meet once per month (or more if agreed upon by both volunteer and older adult) with older adults in their homes, and participate in activities ranging from playing board games, to sitting and chatting, to taking walks or going on short outings. All volunteers are carefully screened, matched, interviewed and trained before working with older adult clients.
JFS works closely with caregivers both locally and long-distance to ensure their loved ones are receiving proper services. Our programs provide the educational and emotional support necessary to give caregivers peace of mind no matter where they live. Services include Caregiver Consultations, sessions with a licensed social worker with the goal of creating the best care plan possible, and Caregiver Conversations, a monthly support and educational group facilitated by an experienced social worker.
Medicare & Medicaid Enrollment
JFS resource advocates can help clients enroll in Medicare and Medicaid through the Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program (MMAP)
