Bonnie Dockham, LMSW
Bonnie graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelors in Social Science. She immediately pursued her graduate degree at the University of Michigan, graduating with her Masters in Social Work with a concentration in healthcare practice. Bonnie has practiced as a licensed medical social worker both in the inpatient hospital and the department of Radiation Oncology at St. Joseph Mercy Health System. Before moving into the Executive Director position at the Cancer Support Community, Bonnie served as the founding Program Director. She is a member of the Michigan Quality Cancer Consortium advisory board and has a particular interest in evidence based practices to improve the quality of life for people with cancer and their loved ones. She is a published author, a frequent presenter at state and national oncology conferences and adjunct faculty at the University of Michigan’s School of Social Work and School of Nursing.
Tina Gutman, LMSW
Tina Gutman is a licensed clinical social worker and the Bereavement Coordinator for Kindred at Home Hospice (formerly Gentiva). In addition to her work in grief counseling, she also provides support and educational opportunities locally as part of a new outreach and engagement initiative to better serve the community’s caregivers and bereaved. Tina has worked as a social worker in multiple healthcare settings and is passionate about dementia care education and training, the rights of the terminally ill, and facilitating meaningful interactions for families and caregivers with their loved ones at end of life. Tina received her Master’s Degree in Social Work from The University of Texas in Austin and is licensed in both Texas and Michigan.
Sarah S. Hong, LMSW
Sarah S. Hong is a licensed clinical social worker and behavioral health educator. Sarah earned her bachelor’s degree from Duke University and her master’s degree in social work from the University of Michigan. Sarah has an extensive background in behavioral health education, is a clinically licensed MSW who provides direct counseling services to individuals and groups and is also a certified yoga instructor since 2002. Her mindfulness studies include training in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy for Depression (MBCT) and Mindfulness Based Eating Awareness Training (MB-EAT). Sarah has designed and delivered wellness programming nationally, including but not limited to, programming at the University of Michigan Health System, for the US Army, for the University of California San Francisco and for Kaiser Permanente.
Helen Kaplan, LMSW
Helen Kaplan is a licensed clinical social worker and the Intake Coordinator at the University Center for the Child and Family (UCCF) and an LEO Lecturer at the University of Michigan School of Social Social Work. Prior to joining the supervising faculty at UCCF, Ms. Kaplan was a school social worker for almost fifteen years where she evaluated and treated children of all ages with a variety of disabilities including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Mood Disorders and Autism Spectrum Disorders. In her role as a school social worker, Ms. Kaplan worked closely with parents, teachers and school administrators to support children at home and at school. Ms. Kaplan also has years of experience conducting Functional Behavior Assessments and writing Behavior Intervention plans. Ms. Kaplan received her undergraduate and Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan and also participated in a post-masters advanced training program at U-M.
Erin Martinez, LMSW
Erin Martinez is a Licensed Masters Clinical Social Worker and Certified Sex Therapist. Erin is the founder and director of Dream Catchers Therapy Practice located in Dearborn, Michigan. Her practice offers a full range of individual, family, couple’s and group services. Trauma healing, posttraumatic stress disorder and sex therapy have remained a constant passion for her throughout her years in practice. Erin has worked in the Clinical Social Work field for over 20 years with a vast amount of professional experience with crisis intervention, at-risk youth mentorship, family reunification, victim/perpetrator clarification work, trauma work and group, family and couple’s therapy surrounding issues of anxiety, depression, trauma healing, and intimacy. Erin received her graduate degree from the University of Michigan and has completed her certificate in the Sexual Health Program at the University of Michigan. She currently is a full-time clinician with a private practice in Dearborn, Michigan. She is adjunct faculty at the University of Michigan School of Social Work and Assistant Director of the University of Michigan Sexual Health Certificate Program.
Emily Preston Rahim, LMSW, CTTS-M
Emily Preston Rahim is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who graduated from the University of Michigan with a Master of Social Work degree in 2003. In addition, she is also a Certified Master level Tobacco Treatment Specialist from the University of Massachusetts. Emily has worked extensively in the tobacco field both in community organizing and at the clinical level with groups and individuals providing nicotine addiction treatment. She has served on the board at Tobacco Free Michigan and has been part of youth led tobacco awareness campaigns across Washtenaw and Livingston County. Emily has expertise in trauma, death, loss and grief, conflict management, depression, anxiety, chronic illness, abuse, addictions, suicidal ideation, LGBTQ, stress management, and using nature to heal. Emily has spent time working in extreme poverty in Bangladesh and has worked at the Children’s Defense Fund in NYC and brings with her innovative practices for wellness.
Mira Sussman, LMSW
Mira Sussman holds an MSW from the University of Southern California and a Masters in Jewish Communal Service from Hebrew Union College in Los Angeles. She currently specializes in cultural competency, diversity and immigration issues. Mira was the original Refugee Resettlement Program Director at Jewish Family Services in Ann Arbor, MI, where she resurrected the only refugee resettlement program in Washtenaw County, as well as created a Citizenship program. She has designed and delivered training curricula to the University of Michigan and various local for- and non-profit organizations.
Susan Sefansky, LMSW, ACSW
Susan Sefansky has been a social worker at University of Michigan Hospitals since 1985. Her experience with death and dying includes work in the pediatric intensive care unit, the pain clinic, and geriatric home care. Since 2009, Susan has been coordinator of the Office of Decedent Affairs. She has developed expertise in discussing death and developed a comfort level around dead bodies. She assists families during traumatic times, and interfaces regularly with the medico-legal system. Susan has presented nationally on this topic. She was adjunct faculty at the UM School of Social Work 1995-2005. Susan received her MSW in 1976.
