Career Services JFS Employment Program

We offer assistance to all individuals in our community, including resettlement clients and WorkFirst participants, in their search for a job.

Career Services

JFS provides vocational services, pre-employment training, placement and support to local jobseekers. Clients from a variety of backgrounds, occupations and levels of education benefit from the following services:

 

  • Job placement
  • Overview of basic skills and workplace competencies
  • Pre-employment and work maturity skills
  • Resume writing
  • Targeting employment opportunities and marketing to improve prospects for placement
  • Vocational skills assessment
  • Job counseling
  • Occupational skills training

Resettlement Client Career Services

To accommodate the special needs of our resettlement clients, JFS has career services designed specifically for refugee/immigrant groups. The program offers a unique approach to pre-employment training, job development and placement of participants. Career counseling for resettlement clients provides an understanding the ethics and policies of the American labor market, enabling clients to comfortably enter the workforce. Facilitated by a bi-lingual staff, this program provides a sensitive and supportive environment in which participants may reach their potential through successful employment.

WorkFirst Program

This program is designed for recipients of public assistance and is structured to provide a fast and effective pathway from public assistance to gainful employment and self-sufficiency. Our program offers a variety of activities designed to accommodate individuals with various levels of English proficiency and diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.

The WorkFirst Program at JFS offers vocational English as a Second Language classes, and Job Club activities including acquisition of necessary job search skills, job development, classroom pre-employment training, interviewing skills and supervised job search. Through this program, participants have access to support services that are available to help eliminate barriers to employment.
